About '1 fat milk nutrition facts'|Kids and Nutrition Facts








For               years               I               alternated               between               drinking               soy               milk               and               rice               milk               due               to               a               mild               allergy               to               milk.

As               stated               in               A               Nutrition               Comparison               of               Soy               Milk               and               Rice               Milk               there               are               pros               and               cons               to               both               of               these               beverages.

In               recent               time               though               I               have               not               been               buying               these               beverages               and               instead               buying               other               alternative               non-dairy               beverages,               such               as               almond               milk.

With               this               in               mind               I               decided               to               analyze               soy               milk               and               almond               milk               to               see               which               one               is               a               more               nutritious               choice.

Here               is               the               following               nutritious               information               for               Silk               Original               Flavor               Soy               Milk               and               Silk               Pure               Almond               Original               Flavor               Unsweetened               Almond               Milk               compared.

Nutrition               Values               that               are               the               Same               
               
               Despite               being               derived               from               completely               different               foods,               the               soy               milk               and               almond               milk               have               some               nutrition               facts               in               common.

Both               beverages               offer               no               grams               of               cholesterol               and               no               grams               of               trans               fat.

Additionally               in               the               vitamins               and               minerals               section               of               the               soy               milk               and               almond               reveal               quite               a               few               similarities.

Both               beverages               offer               same               amount               of               vitamin               A               listing               10               %,               vitamin               C               listing               0%,               calcium               listing               45%               and               vitamin               B12               listing               50%.
               Nutrition               Values               that               Differ               
               
               Right               away               you               can               see               that               in               the               same               serving               size,               one               cup,               for               both               of               the               dairy               alternative               beverages               there               are               some               significant               differences.

While               the               soy               milk               has               90               calories               with               30               calories               from               fat               the               almond               milk               only               has               30               calories               with               25               calories               from               fat.

The               almond               milk               has               one               gram               less               of               total               fat,               a               quarter               of               polyunsaturated               fat               but               50%               more               monounsaturated               fat.

The               saturated               fat               for               the               soy               milk               lists               0.5               grams               while               the               almond               milk               lists               none.

There               are               30               more               milligrams               of               sodium               in               the               almond               milk               and               240               more               milligrams               of               potassium               in               the               soy               milk.

The               soy               milk               also               has               seven               more               carbohydrates               and               five               more               grams               of               protein.

Additionally               it               lists               2%               more               iron,               5%               more               of               both               vitamin               D               and               riboflavin               and               6%               more               magnesium.

However,               the               soy               milk               lists               6%               less               zinc.
               Soy               Milk               Has               It;               Almond               Milk               Does               Not
               When               comparing               any               kind               of               food               you               will               notice               that               some               lists               and               offer               some               nutrients               that               other               similar               foods               do               not.

The               soy               milk               and               almond               milk               are               no               exception.

There               a               few               things               that               the               soy               milk               lists               that               cannot               be               found               in               the               almond               milk.

First,               it               list               six               grams               of               sugars               while               the               almond               milk               lists               none.

In               the               vitamins               and               minerals               section               of               the               soy               milk               there               are               two               nutrients               listed               that               are               not               found               on               the               nutrition               facts               of               the               almond               milk:               selenium               and               folate.

The               soy               milk               lists               selenium               with               8%               and               lists               folate               with               6%.
               Almond               Milk               Has               It;               Soy               Milk               Does               Not
               Just               as               the               soy               milk               listed               three               things               that               were               not               found               in               the               almond               milk:               sugars,               selenium               and               folate.

The               almond               milk               listed               three               things               as               well,               but               all               of               them               were               in               the               vitamins               and               minerals               section.

These               were               vitamin               E,               copper               and               manganese.

The               vitamin               E               was               listed               with               50%,               the               copper               was               listed               with               2%               and               the               manganese               was               listed               with               4%.

This               meant               that               the               almond               milk               had               one               more               nutrient               in               the               minerals               and               vitamins               section,               despite               not               listing               two               nutrients               that               are               found               in               the               soy               milk.
               While               I               understand               that               it               is               completely               logical               to               compare               tastes               when               determining               which               of               the               two               beverages               is               best,               it               would               difficult               to               say.

While               I               could               argue               that               the               almond               milk               is               preferred               in               my               house               for               this               reason               alone,               it               is               a               subjective               point               and               thus               I               will               only               discuss               which               to               choose               based               on               what               they               offer               nutritionally.

Depending               on               what               you               are               looking               for               in               a               non-dairy               beverage               one               might               be               better               than               the               other.

The               almond               milk               offers               fewer               calories               so               it               could               be               a               good               choice               for               those               dieting.

However,               the               soy               milk               offers               significantly               more               protein               and               carbohydrates               which               makes               it               a               good               candidate               for               anyone               hoping               get               some               of               his               or               her               daily               protein               from               his               or               her               milk.

Anyone               minimizing               sodium               in               his               or               her               diet               would               choose               the               soy               milk               and               anyone               who               is               looking               to               decrease               his               or               her               intake               of               potassium               would               choose               the               almond               milk.

The               choice               depends               on               what               your               diet               needs.

Keep               one               thing               in               mind               though;               it               is               not               good               to               have               too               much               soy               in               your               diet.

This               is               the               whole               reason               I               started               drinking               almond               milk               and               is               one               reason               I               get               it               so               often.

Also,               keep               in               mind               that               each               brand               may               differ               slightly,               such               as               Almond               Breeze               Almond               Milk.

    Cereals               marketed               to               children               often               sound               the               alarm               for               "sugar"               to               many               people.

    But               as               much               as               58%               of               "children's               cereals"               are               eaten               by               people               over               18.

    Consumer               Reports               tested               27               cereals               and               compared               them               for               overall               nutritional               value.

    A               cereal               low               in               sugar,               with               added               fruit               and               low               fat               milk               can               be               part               of               a               healthy               diet.

    Breakfast               eaters               have               "better               overall               nutrition,               fewer               weight               problems,               and               better               cognitive               performance               throughout               the               day."
                   Some               tested               cereals               contained               40%               to               50%               sugar.

    Consumers               Union               took               part               in               a               32-nation               study               on               similar-brand               cereals               and               found               that               the               U.S.

    often               had               more               sugar               and               salt               than               those               sold               overseas.
                   The               study               found               that               most               children               poured               up               to               50%               to               65%               more               than               the               suggested               serving               size               on               four               of               the               tested               cereals.
                   The               nutrition               score               is               based               on               a               balance               between               "the               amount               of               beneficial               nutrients,               such               as               fiber               and               calcium,               and               those               that               should               be               limited,               such               as               sugar,               sodium,               and               fat."               High               dietary               fiber               is               5               grams               or               more               per               serving.

    There               are               no               government               guidelines               for               sugar               so               CR               assigned               a               level               of               1               teaspoon               of               sugar               per               serving               to               be               rated               as               "low"               in               sugar.
                   CR               rated               27               cereals               usually               marketed               to               children               and               only               four               deserved               to               be               rated               "very               good"               for               "being               relatively               low               in               sugars,               with               some               fiber,               high               in               iron,               and               a               good               source               of               calcium."               Cereals               are               rated               without               milk,               according               to               the               nutrients               listed               on               the               products'               labels.

                   The               expenses               of               organic               foods               are               often               mentioned               by               people               who               don't               happen               to               buy               them               very               often,               but               the               price               of               not               buying               them               might               actually               be               higher,               especially               when               you               factor               in               the               damage               it               does               to               our               environment,               and               the               damage               pesticides               can               do               to               your               health               over               time.

                   With               so               many               "super               vegetables"               available               for               so               cheap,               there's               no               excuse               not               to               pick               a               few               of               them               up               the               next               time               you're               at               the               grocery               store               or               farmer's               market.
                   The               term               "superfood"               gets               thrown               around               a               little               too               much,               but               when               you               take               into               account               the               nutrient               value               and               abundance               of               these               vegetables,               it's               hard               not               to               call               them               that.
                   Here               are               five               of               the               best               values               among               organic               superfood               vegetables               out               there:
                   1.

    Kale-               This               dark,               leafy               green               has               made               a               huge               comeback               and               is               now               one               of               the               most               popular               vegetables               in               the               entire               store               because               of               its               hard-to-beat               combination               of               nutrition               and               value.
                   Kale               is               loaded               with               anti-inflammatory               and               anti-cancer               compounds               galore,               and               is               one               of               the               best               sources               of               Vitamin               K               out               there.

    One               serving               also               gives               you               a               ton               of               Vitamin               C               (about               the               daily               value,               although               I               recommend               eating               Vitamin               C               throughout               the               day)               and               is               a               strong               source               of               calcium.
                   It's               like               a               multi-vitamin               in               plant               form,               and               it's               versatile               enough               to               be               made               into               anything               from               a               salad               to               baked               kale               chips.
                   You               can               find               organic               kale               for               as               little               as               $1.49-$1.99               a               pound.
                   2.

    Cilantro-               One               of               the               best               ways               to               detox               heavy               metals               from               your               system,               cilantro               also               happens               to               be               extremely               cheap               and               plentiful.

    You               can               find               this               excellent               accent               to               salads,               rice,               and               other               dishes               for               as               little               as               79-99               cents               a               pound               in               the               organic               section.
                   Cilantro               has               a               "love               it               or               hate               it"               kind               of               taste               according               to               some               people.

    While               I               was               a               little               surprised               by               it               at               first,               the               taste               has               certainly               grown               on               me               and               I'm               now               firmly               in               the               former               category.
                   3.

    Parsley-               Similar               to               cilantro               in               many               ways,               including               the               price.

    It's               usually               a               tough               choice               between               parsley               and               cilantro,               but               I               alternate               each               week.
                   Parsley               is               excellent               for               heart               health,               protection               against               rheumatoid               arthritis,               detoxing               in               general               including               heavy               metals,               and               much               more.

    It's               also               rich               in               vitamins               K,               A,               and               C.

    Not               bad               for               99               cents               a               pound               in               its               organic               form.
                   4.

    Cabbage-               One               of               the               most               forgotten               vegetables               out               there,               and               also               one               of               the               cheapest               per               pound,               and               one               of               the               best               values               among               organic               vegetables.

    You               can               get               green               cabbage               for               as               little               as               99               cents               a               pound               if               you               know               where               to               look,               although               it               is               usually               in               the               $1.49-$1.99               range.

    You               can               probably               get               it               cheaper               at               the               most               farmer's               markets,               however.
                   It's               also               high               in               Vitamin               K               and               C,               as               well               as               anti-cancer               compounds.

    Cabbage               is               also               a               great               source               of               silica               for               healthy               hair,               skin               and               nails,               and               excellent               in               soups               as               well               as               raw               (once               you               get               used               to               it).

    Green               Onions-               The               epitome               of               a               budget               organic               vegetable,               green               onions               not               only               clock               in               at               less               than               a               dollar               a               pound,               they               also               replenish               themselves               over               and               over               again.

    That's               right,               you               can               actually               re-grow               them               from               scraps               on               your               windowsill.
                   Green               onions               offer               a               wide               range               of               health               benefits               as               well,               including               the               ability               to               fight               infections,               sore               throats               and               the               common               cold,               nasal               congestion,               and               even               swollen               feet.

    They               also               happen               to               be               my               favorite               salad               accent,               so               I               always               make               sure               I               have               plenty               on               hand.
